Alimentaria in Barcelona: German Sweets Pleased with Positive Outcome

On Friday 26 March, the third largest food trade fair in Europe, the Alimentaria, came to a close. Exhibitors from all over the world had a total of five days to present themselves in the new trade fair surroundings, boasting eight specialist halls. German Sweets, with eight exhibiting companies, was the biggest German presence in the confectionery hall (Mundidulce) and further German companies were to be found in the international hall and the milk hall. Numerous German Sweets member companies were represented via their importers.

Traditionally speaking Mediterranean representatives attach great importance to the Alimentaria. Italy, for example, put up the biggest participation, with national and several regional joint exhibition booths. Other countries boasting major participations were France, Croatia, Romania, and Turkey, not to forget several Latin American countries such as Mexico. Spanish companies were very frequently represented at regional joint exhibition booths. Evaluation of the contacts made at the trade fair will show whether the Alimentaria has firmly established itself as a leading trade fair for the entire Mediterranean region.

The German Sweets joint exhibition stand received high-ranking visitors right from the start of the fair. The newly appointed German ambassador to Madrid, Mr Reinhard Silberberg, took the opening of the fair as an opportunity to make a first visit to Barcelona. Together with the Consul-General in Barcelona, Ms Christine Gläser, he devoted a great deal of time to talking to the exhibiting companies. In 2011, the Alimentaria will be staged in Lisbon, after which it will return to Barcelona in 2012.
