This Monday, March 14, is another special day in many countries in East Asia - White Day. It is celebrated exactly one month after Valentine's Day and can be seen as a kind of 'answer' to the Day of Lovers.
It originated from the fact that in many countries such as Japan, Korea or Taiwan, women give men presents on Valentine's Day. Since the end of the 1970s, on White Daye men have been thanking their loved ones with sweets and small gifts for the Valentine's Day surprise.
The special holiday owes its name 'White Day' to the fact that white sweets, such as white chocolate, are particularly popular as gifts. This is because they are supposed to bring good luck to the loved ones, thanks to their white color.
