Sweet treats for the Lantern Festival

For Western countries, the new year is already a month old. In many Asian cultures, however, it is just around the corner - in China, for example. There, the start of the new year is celebrated today. Traditionally, the festivities last for two weeks and are intended to ensure prosperity for the upcoming year.

On the 15th of February 2022 the new years’ celebrations will end with the Lantern Festival. The spring will then be officially welcomed by lantern displays, fireworks, and dancing. However, traditional Chinese Yuanxiaos are also central to the festival. Yuanxiaos are dumplings made of glutinous rice flour, which are filled either sweetly with sesame, chocolate, fruits or nuts or salty with vegetables and meat.
