Trick or treat

Sunday the 31st of October 2021 marks the return of what is arguably the spookiest holiday of the year - Halloween. While the origin of this special tradition is often attributed to the US, it actually comes from Ireland. There, the Celts already celebrated the festival of "Samhain" before Christ, to which today's Halloween goes back. Even then, people are said to have dressed up in costumes and wandered around houses.

Today, this tradition is continued in a similar way. Children dress up and run from house to house asking for 'trick or treat'. Usually, seasonal spooky treats end up in the children's bags. These are mainly sugar and chocolate goods, but also savoury snacks typically designed for Halloween as ghosts, pumpkins, bats and co.
