This Sunday, July 17th, 2022, marks the anniversary of another curious holiday in the U.S. - National Ice Cream Day. It goes back to a proclamation by Senator Walter Dee Huddelston, a congressman from the US state of Kentucky. On the 15th of July 1984 he declared National Ice Cream Day.
Although the original proclamation referred only to the year 1984, the day of the ice cream asserted itself also without further political order until today. Since it was noticed over the years that Sundays in particular are a popular ice cream day, Ice Cream Day is now celebrated on every third Sunday in July.
However, ice cream is not only popular in the United States, but also in this country and around the world. Therefore, today's Ice Cream Day offers a perfect occasion to bring the special holiday to Europe as well and honor it with a delicious ice cream especially today.
