Happy Chewing Gum Day!

Today, the 30th of September, marks the anniversary of another day of honor for a popular confectionery - the Day of Chewing Gum is celebrated in the United States. Unfortunately, it is not known who established this day in the U.S. and since when it has been celebrated there on a regular basis.

What is known, however, is that modern chewing gum in its current form can be traced back to a tradition that is now over 150 years old. According to the latest findings, the concept of chewing gum could have been around much longer. For example, scientists have discovered that our ancestors may have used birch resin as a chewing gum substitute to clean teeth over 5,000 years ago.

Fortunately, today there are numerous tastier chewing gum alternatives instead of birch resin, which has helped to make them popular all over the world. Thus, chewing gum variations such as different flavors, sugar-free or even dental care or energy chewing gum are now commercially available.

International buyers of chewing gum should take a look at the product range of the German Sweets members in our online buyer's guide Sweets Export Guide. More product news from the manufacturers is also waiting for you in our Product and Trade Fair Newsletter!
